Less is more

One of the main aspects of having a Scandinavian look in your home is to make sure that you embrace a less is more approach to style. Try to keep your home clutter free and opt for bold statement pieces of furniture rather than lots and lots of smaller items.

Keep it neutral

Another way to recognise a home that has had a Hygge touch is that it will often be decorated with light and neutral colours. Grey’s and whites are commonplace. This doesn’t mean that you have to stay away from colour completely, once you mastered these neutral tones is time to add some pastel or subtle colours there and here.

Bare wood is the way to go

One thing that you will see most common in Scandinavian interiors is wood. Wooden floor, wooden furniture and everything in bare wood. We want to keep as close to nature as possible by using only natural materials and textures. If you are only starting on your home interior the wooden floor is a must, but if you are looking for other alternatives, go for natural wood furniture. This will bring some warmth and a real feeling of Scandinavia in any room.

Shine some light

Not everyone is blessed with lots of natural light in their homes, which is something that is seen in plenty of Scandinavian inspired designs. The good thing about light, is if you don’t have it.  You can fake it. Set up some lights around the corners of the room (be mindful to keep these in fitting with the rest of the style) and you will soon find that your space, no matter how dark and dismal it may have seemed. Is suddenly flooded with light!

Add cushions and more cushions…

No one will argue, that one of the must have Hygge accessories are cushions. The more the better! And there is your chance to add some colour to you interior and create that warm and cosy look.  And don’t forget to throw in a chunky knit blanket for the ultimate sofa snuggle.

So, there you have it, the Emodi guide to getting that perfect Scandinavian look in your home. Whether it is with cushions, rugs or perhaps just the floor you choose. You are sure to find the ideal look for your home. If you need those finishing touches, take a look at our collection and we may just have exactly what you are looking for.

I love the scandinavian style, I think the most essential is to keep it simple and neutral. And having white walls actually allows you to add some more colours which pop up awesome. Great designs thanks for sharing.

I agree with the idea of “less is more”, the benefit of living with minimal things around you, the only things you’ll just need. I’m planning now on being minimalist and I have to apply it first to my living. Scandinavian look for a home is now in trend.I’ll give my place a quick renovation soon. Thanks!
