Have you ever heard of hygge? Chances are that you might of, but that you are not really sure what it means. Hygge was created in Denmark and it is the idea that you want to create your home as inviting, as cosy and as warm as possible.
Of course, everyone has a different idea of what will make their home feel intimate and like a place that they want to snuggle up in, but, to try and master the art of hygge, here are some of the best ways that you can change things in your home.
Add a flame or two
One of the key elements of hygge living is that your home feels warm and cosy. The best way to achieve this has to be with a warming fire that you can sit by, but this isn’t something that we can all do. A great alternative is to add in a few candles around the room, once they are lit then the whole space is going to feel a whole lot warmer.
Bring some of the outdoors in
Another thing to remember when it comes to hygge is that there are always a few touches of nature around. Plant some plants in the rooms that you use the most, or, treat yourself to some beautiful flowers. If you are not sure that you have the commitment for a plant, then you could add in some wood or stone which will still give the space a sense of being outdoors.
Don’t have bright lights
Whilst it is important to have a room that is well lit, you don’t want to feel that you are under some kind of interrogation when you are sat in there. This means that one great thing to do is to try your best to keep your lights as low as possible. Invest in a dimmer switch, or, if this isn’t possible then opt for table lamps that you can turn on and off instead.
Never have clutter
If you feel cluttered and confined in a space, then chances are that you are not going to feel that relaxed. So, do your best to make sure that your home is as clutter free as possible. This can be hard to do when the space is restricted, but it isn’t impossible.
Add some amazing cushions
Hygge is all about being comfortable and cosy in your home and there is nothing that is more warming and inviting then a load of cushions. So, one of the easiest ways to make sure that your home feels as hygge as possible, is treating yourself to a variety of beautiful and inviting cushions, just ready for you to dive on in.
As you can see, hygge doesn’t have to be the hardest thing in the world to achieve, and in no time at all you will have a home that you want to spend time in and that you take great pride in calling your own. What better feeling could there be than that?
